Goals
  • Develop skills to motivate resistant clients
  • Improve your ability to engage with clients
  • Increase your awareness of barriers to change
  • Enhance your current counseling skills
Objectives
Participants will:
  • Gain a basic understanding of the theory and research of motivational approaches
  • Learn to conceptualize resistance from a Stages of Change model in order to increase motivation to change.
  • Develop engagement skills used in motivational approaches.
  • Improve their ability to develop effective treatment relationships by using motivational approaches with clients.
  • Increase their understanding of the various patterns of change that occur in substance abusers.
  • Apply motivational approaches in role plays and discussions
